“change and challenge requires a strong sense of motivation and purpose”

“change and challenge requires a strong sense of motivation and purpose”

I should really get out more. I feel like im really getting old fast…and that sucks.

BTW did anyone know that I want to adopt a kid within the next 3 years or so?…..true statement. I probably wont be the best father right off the bat, but im sure I can grow into it. Most people just misunderstand me.

that is all.

life is a growing experience

It always amazing to meet people who are resistant to change. In many ways, that’s like being resistant to life itself. Life is a growing experience, and growing, by definition, involves change. In essence, no change means no growth because the two are actually synonymous. If you look back on your life, you will discover that you have been reinventing yourself from the beginning. When you were a child, you saw a vision of the future based on your limited knowledge and experience.
Chances are, you didn’t grow up to fulfill your childhood vision of yourself. Probably because by the time you were a teenager, you had completely reinvented yourself. You had acquired new knowledge and had new experiences. Your whole perception of the world and your place in it had changed…..Instead of seeing life from a child’s point of view, you were beginning to see things as a young adult. You’re no longer the same person. When you take in new knowledge and implement it, it changes you. When you have new experiences and learn from them, it changes you. Whenever you act on what you learn it’s called growing. So as long as we continue to grow, we’ll need to reinvent ourselves periodically; resisting this process can have a very negative effect on our sense of joy and our enthusiasm for life. When we reinvent ourselves, it’s like multiplying our knowledge base and perspective. It allows us to consider things from several different angles/perspective. We don’t give up our former self, we simply add another dimension. And in closing, one should never force change, allow it to happen organically. Personal change = personal growth; but you can’t force something into existence. What will be will be, and what won’t……won’t

goodnight

Is living a good life determined by what you do or what you think?

Is living a good life determined by what you do or what you think?

A man can live and act selflessly, care for his sick mother, be a model citizen in society, etc.He does all he can to help others. He has sexual feelings for the eight-year-old girl living next door. He may never act out his fantasies, and keep them in his mind only, but to merely think them would surely contradict all the good in life that he does. An alcoholic dragging himself through each day, trying to find enough money for his next beer, though cares not for his hygiene, cares for the ducks in the park; cares and thinks about his sick mother. He knows that he is an alcoholic and feels guilty because he cannot shake off his addiction to help her, but he makes no effort to stop. Without the alcohol, he could be as selfless as the man before him. The first is selfless in action but sick in mind. The second is selfish in action but caring in mind. Which of these is the better person? Is living a good life determined by what you do, or what you think?
———————————————————————-

Here are some different point of views:

“They may forget what you said, but they will never forget how you made them feel.”

“The ability to fantasize without acting out those fantasies, showsmaturity of the mind.”

“You are judged by what you do. Thoughts are for free. ”

“We all have thoughts at one time or another that made touch on the darker side of life. However, a truly good person knows his/her weaknesses and acts accordingly.”

“Every decision we make and every action we take is reflective of who we are. Whether the action is behind closed doors, or it is athought, or it is some great deed. Everything we say, do, andthink helps to determine who we are as a person. We may have what people consider a “good” life – we have a good job, successful marriage, great kids – but I think the things we do when no one is looking, or the thoughts we think that we tell ourselves is just a passing thought, those are the things that really determine how “good” of a person we are ”

“There are three kinds of actions 1) Action by thought 2)Action by speech 3) Physical action. One can do good or bad by all the three. The result will also be accordingly given. Good by all the three is 100% good. Good by two and bad by one is 66% Good. Good by one is 33% goodbad by all three is 100% bad. Now you can judgeyourself accordingly.”

“Our lives are not determined by what happens to us but how we react to what happens, not by what life brings us but theattitude we bring to life.”

Are you determined?

Great post, my thoughts are pretty much what you concluded. We are not perfect creatures and I admit that I have dark thoughts all the time. But I can make the distinction between acting on the good thoughts and NOT acting on the bad ones. We all have an internal compass which guides us and gives us guidance on what to act on and what not to act on. I say therefore that it is what you DO that ultimately matters because what we think does not impact the lives of others, but what you DO, DOES!

Doing things is powerful, because it moves us forward. But I will also say that sometimes I make a conscious decision to do absolutely nothing in reaction to a given occurrance. That is also powerful, and it has served me well when I chose to do nothing in some circumstances. It wasn’t out of lazyness/sloth, it was a conscious decision to do nothing.

Good post.

struggling, but should be appreciative…. :(

I wish I knew someone who went through the severe hardships that I go through everyday. People wonder why I preach determination all the time. If they only knew. Hearing people complain about their “bad” lives or “bad” situations….they don’t realize how good they really have it. 80% of people I know would crumble if they wore my shoes for a day.

The ironic thing is if I did not grow up the way I did, around certain people, and certain situations year after year, I wouldn’t be who I am today. Loyal, Honest, Trustworthy, Hard worker, reliable…….NOBODY EVER wants to receive a phone call like I just received.

I can see exactly why people abuse alcohol and drugs to deal with situations similar to what I am in now.

“Our lives are not determined by what happens to us but how we react to what happens, not by what life brings us but the attitude we bring to life.”

I have to stay optimistic, I just have to. but FUCK its hard sometimes.

grateful…

Life is good. Jen and I have been saving all year so we can buy a house in the near future. Actually Jen has been saving for 3-4 years as she really doesn’t buy much anyways, however not so much with me. This year I started with 0 savings, and by the end of the year I will have over 15k saved. + whatever I receive out of my grandfathers estate, which I do not expect to be much. I also would have maxed out my IRA account by spring as well. I am clearly on pace for those two goals. I am really excited about the opportunity to buy down my interest rate to 0%. Would cost us about 34k to buy down to 0% with a 200,000 Mortgage, and our monthly payment would be around $555, which would all go to principle. However I may not buy down all the way to 0, maybe 1-2. To know that I would have a property for the rest of my life for $555 a month, is very secure. To know that I would have saved 50-250k on interest over those 30 years by taking the hit for 34k when im 26-27, I like it. If I were to rent for 10-15 years until I could save enough to actually buy the home outright, the money in rent would easily outweigh the 34k upfront. Shit it would taken only 3 years to hit 34k renting.(unless I stay in this very small 1br apartment, then its a little less.)

All in all, I am very grateful that I have been put in a position to be surrounded by friends who genuinely care about my well being, and my financial future. Thank you all.

venting…. sorry.

Why is it that every SINGLE person in my ENTIRE family has made TERRIBLE LIFE DECISIONS? Then when I do the “right” thing and help them time after time…..and they ultimately end up doing what they want AGAIN, which fails AGAIN(which is blatantly obvious), I have to hear “well I never ask for your help” I fucking hate when people say that to me.

Its like you see a homeless person on the street, who spent all of his money on dope, and now he is dying of starvation… so you give him a cheeseburger because your obviously not going to watch him die, he eats it, you both go on your way… a month later you see him in the same place, same time, same situation, same everything and your like WTF dude? AGAIN?… and hes like “well I didn’t ask for your cheeseburger” are you kidding me?

NUMBERS DON’T LIE, PEOPLE DO. FUCK!
