guuuuuyyyyyy raz is back! 🙂 this guys voice is so soothing. its like i could listen to his voice while drifting asleep.
Saunder- The awareness that everyone has a story. We all have rich emotional experiences. Our lives are complex.
Dictionary of obscure sorrows(coming out soon, check this out.)- A dictionary that makes up words for different emotions that did not previously exist. Sounds very interesting. Like Saunder. How many words in the dictionary? around 700. WHAT? this sounds very interesting.
Lochasizem- The hunger for disaster. Part of the sting behind our sadness, is the emotional words are mysterious. Putting a name to a feeling. Feelings are complicated.
Let’s try and figure out what emotions are, and why we feel them?

TEDxMidAtlantic- Our democracy no longer represents the people. Here’s how we fix it- Larry Lessig
Harvard Professor Lawrence Lessig makes the case that our democracy has become corrupt with money, leading to inequality that means only 0.02% of the United States population actually determines who’s in power. Lessig says that this fundamental breakdown of the democratic system must be fixed before we will ever be able to address major challenges.
William Tweed- “I dont care who does the electing, as long as I get to do the nominating”
If you control the nomination, every candidate is going to worry what you the NOMINATOR THINKS, so you practically control the candidate whether or not you control the ultimate election. “Genius theory for destroying democracy”.
1923 in Texas: By law, in the democratic primary, only whites could vote. Blacks could vote in the general election(if they could even register as it was tough back then). Back then, the only party that mattered was the democratic party in texas. Blacks(16% of population) we’re excluded. We all look at this and think to ourselves, there’s something obviously wrong with this.
Basically money is heavily involved in politics, and politicians press the right buttons to work the system to get elected/nominated. “shape shifters”- they constantly adjust by whatever means necessary.
“Green Primary”- The first step is essentially get money for campaign.
in 2014, the top 100 funders gave as much as the bottom 4.75 million funders(corporations vs people)

The first gentlemen starts talking about how there are so many people organized in an orchestra, that everyone needs to TRUST the composer, and their instruments to make the sound come out the way it should. Nice and harmonious. It takes time for 89-90 people to trust one another. To play specifically together at the right tune/time.
Between the composer and orchestra, there has to be an unshakeable amount of trust, born out of mutual respect, through which they can create a musical performance unlike no other.
Its not about power, its not about ‘whos in charge’, its about TRUST.
That kind of trust, is what allows us to make assumptions that things will go RIGHT.
Trust is the most fundamental thing in every single human relationship, and without trust, no relationships can really flourish.
Trust means the pilot will get you home safely, or the thing you order will arrive, your partner wont cheat. Trust is the way a beautiful piece of music comes together, without it, everything breaks down.
When youre in a position of not trusting, what do you do? You overcompensate.

I have watched this TED talk twice so far. I will more times in the future as the presentation and information is just WOW.
Gentleman proceeds to tell us a story of how his life changed for the better when he got fired from his good job. While this even in his life created the greatest amount of discomfort, it was the discomfort, the departure from his ORDERED life that forever changed his situation for the better.
What makes you comfortable, can ruin you, and what makes you uncomfortable is the only way to grow. Only in a state of discomfort can you continuously grow.

TED -Robert Waldinger- What makes a good life Lessons from the longest study on happiness

Kris notes 3.15.18
What keeps us healthy and happy as we go through life? If you were going to invest now in your future best self, where would you put your time, and energy?
A recent survey of millennials– asking them what their most important life goals were. Over 80% said that a major life goal of theirs was to be financially rich. Another 50% of that same 80% said that another major life goal was to become famous.(seriously? Keep the fame I just want the money! Jk………not really L) We’re constantly told to lean into work, to work harder, and achieve more. We’re given the impression that these are the things that we need to go after to live a good life.
Most of what we know from previous generations comes from asking people to remember the past. Hindsight is anything but 20-20. We forget vast amounts of what happens to us in life. Sometimes memories are down right creative. We can create our own memories.

kris notes. OMG. Just OMG. This ted talk sent multiple chills down my spine throughout the talk. This is one of the most important talks I have watched thus far. I mean they are all important but damn. Ive watched this one 3 times.
A study performed in the mid 90’s by the CDC and an insurance company discovered a dramatic increased risk of 7 out of 10 of the leading causes of death in the united states. In high doses, it affects brain development, immune system, hormonal system, and even the way our DNA is read and transcribed. Folks that are exposed in very high doses have triple the lifetime risk of heart disease, lung cancer, and a 20 year difference in life expectancy. And yet, doctors today are not trained to treat this.
The exposure she is talking about is not a pesticide, or a packing chemical,……..
